🏆✨ KMITL Students Win Prestigious Award at Thailand New Gen Inventors Award 2025

From creativity to real-world impact — celebrating innovation that matters!

The Faculty of Engineering, KMITL, proudly congratulates students from the Financial Engineering Program (FE) and the Department of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for their outstanding achievement at the Thailand New Gen Inventors Award 2025 (I-New Gen Award 2025), organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).

🏆 The team received:

  • Gold Medal

  • 1st Runner-Up Trophy (National Level)

  • Prize money of 60,000 THB
in the category of Energy, Materials, and Biochemical Innovations

🌊 Award-Winning Project:
“High-Efficiency Oil Spill Capture Buoy Using Superhydrophobic Membrane Technology”

This innovative buoy addresses the often-overlooked but devastating problem of marine pollution. Developed using superhydrophobic membrane technology, the buoy selectively absorbs oil and grease, while repelling water — effectively restoring water quality and supporting long-term ecosystem health.

♻️ What’s more, the buoy is made from 100% recycled and natural materials, including recycled plastic bottles and filter fibers from cattail plants — a common aquatic weed. This makes the invention not only effective but also environmentally friendly and aligned with circular economy principles.

🇹🇭 The project has been recognized nationwide for its creativity, practical application, and potential for commercial deployment and global scaling — marking a significant step toward sustainable environmental innovation.
