♻️🌍 KMITL Joins the Launch of “Waste Wise Station” — Smart Waste Management for a Sustainable Future

📅 8 April 2025

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), through the National Innovation Agency (NIA), in collaboration with KMITL, True Corporation, and private sector partners, officially launched the “Waste Wise Station” initiative at True Digital Park and Punnawithi District, aiming to revolutionize Bangkok’s waste management and promote urban sustainability.

Representing KMITL at the event were:
🔹 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Komsan Maleesi, President of KMITL
🔹 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jaraswan Koyvanich, Vice President for Asset Management and Sustainability, overseeing KLLC
🔹 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yollapat Arirap, Acting Director of KLLC
🔹 Asst. Prof. Dr. Sakarin Saepu, Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design
with KLLC staff in attendance.

🚀 “Waste Wise Station” innovations include:

  1. TRUE: E-Waste Station – Real-time data tracking for carbon reduction from electronics disposal, moving toward Zero Landfill

  2. OKLIN – Biotech solution that transforms food waste into organic fertilizer, reducing waste volume by up to 90%

  3. CIRCULAR – Textile recycling into new materials without re-dyeing

  4. REFUN – PET bottle return machines

  5. RECYCOEX – Used cooking oil collection for conversion into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

🌱 This initiative is more than smart infrastructure — it’s a platform for real-world ESG innovation, business incubation, and green behavior transformation. It supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting circular economy models.

📌 The project originated from ideas developed during the Waste Wise Station Hackathon (21–22 December 2024 at KLLC), where young innovators pitched smart urban waste management solutions.

💡 Waste Wise Station sets a strong foundation for a Smart City model, integrating technology, environmental responsibility, and community participation to transform Punnawithi into a liveable, green innovation district.
